Screenwriting Master Class tip of the week: A message from SMC co-founder and screenwriter Tom Benedek:
Dear Fellow Writers,
Writing a great TV pilot script may accelerate your career — offer wonderful opportunities.
Understanding the intricacies of the pilot form will also improve your feature craft.
There are many things feature writers can learn from the TV form.
So please consider my stimulating (and fun) upcoming online writing class —
TV: 8 WEEK PILOT WORKSHOP. Starts Monday November 9.
We will take a look at 8 great pilot scripts, review their structural fundamentals. Simultaneously, you will build out your series concept, outline, season arc and then write your 30 minute or 60 minute original pilot script.
Managers, agents, producers like to read 30 page or 60 page original pilot scripts. And, of course, spec pilots do sell. They get made into shows. They lead to jobs – in TV and in features. TV matters more than ever before for screenwriters – as an aesthetic standard and as a marketplace.
As screenwriters, whether we watch a lot of TV or not, it is important to recognize that audiences are conditioned by TV viewing — and feature film storytelling may never be the same.
If you have a TV idea that you want and/or need to workshop and build out to script, please do enroll.
It’s a great workshop and Tom is an excellent teacher. To enroll, go here.
